Canard

Canard is a sister restaurant to Portland’s Le Pigeon, and the connection shows up directly on the menu: the Beef Cheek Bourguignon is a Le Pigeon Classic, served here with gruyere whipped potatoes and a glazed carrot. Named for the French word for duck, the kitchen splits its identity by time of day. Brunch and lunch lean playful and French-American, with Foie Gras Dumplings in leek broth with shallot jam, Dungeness Crab Crepes with sauce americaine, and a Duck Stack with duck gravy and tabasco onions, while dinner shifts into more traditional bistro territory: Braised Rabbit with pancetta and pea spaetzel, and Duck or Steak Frites with rosemary fries and beurre rouge.

Raw oysters are on the menu at every service and drop to $2 each during weekday happy hour, alongside a $5.50 Steam Burger on a Hawaiian roll, the accessible end of a menu that otherwise leans toward composed plates.

The wine list runs French and European, with a smaller Oregon section woven in; staff are known for walking guests through it on request.

Happy hour runs Monday through Friday, 11am–2pm and 4–5pm: $2 oysters, $4 steam burgers, $1 off draft beer, $10 daily wine, $10 gin gimlet. The dining room is compact, which makes it a solid pick for a date night or a small group dinner; reservations are recommended on weekends, especially given the Le Pigeon connection tends to draw a crowd.
